Thread: Cable Length -Connecting 2 Computers

I begin with single computer. Then I buy another computer for my wife. Both PC having WinXP installed. Each one has a network card. The network cards are wired to a 4-port broadband router that is attached to a cable modem for internet access.

Then I took the first PC off line and installed third in its place. That has Vista Premium installed and a network connection. Works fine with the second computer. So I thinking that I should wire first PC to the router’s third port to get internet access.

First Question: What is the maximum length for cable from PC to modem?
Second Question: What do I require to buy, install, and organize so I can move files between two PCs? I feel I require now software but I do not know what it is called. This is firmly for home use, BTY.

300 feet on network cable. You do not require buying any software to move files to other PC. You can setup file sharing within windows and move them over network.
