Default The Ethernet Cable Port Problem with Vista OS

    Hi,all

I have a HP dv6 1299lx with Vista Premium. At school, the ethernet cable from the dorms attaches fine with PC. Though, as coming home, ethernet cable, when plugged in, does not attach to any internet. The ethernet port light does not even turn on.

    Hello,

The remaining end of cable is a westel router. I used verizon dsl, and all other xp PCs work fine at home. There are two PCs with vista on it, and sometimes when systems come back from standby the light of the ethernet port does not come on.

I read a lot on this and I think that the westell versalink 327w model is not well-suited with vista os. I will verify on Microsoft's website to be sure.
I restarted my router sometimes and now it looks to be working. I think I have to get a new router.

    Hi,all

These modifications help to raise the compatibility of Vista with older networking devices:

    Disable the IP Helper service:

    1. Push Windows key and type R, enter "services.msc" (without the quotes) and hit Enter

    2. Go down to IP Helper service, right click on it and choose Properties

    3. In the dropdown box that says "Automatic" or "Manual", place it to Disabled and then tick on "Apply"

    4. Then tick on "Stop" to stop the service from running in the present session

    5. Click OK to exit the dialog

    Disable IPv6:
    1. Push Windows key and type R, enter "ncpa.cpl" (without the quotes) and hit Enter
    2. Right click on every network connection and choose "Properties"
    3. Eliminate checkmark from box next to "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)
    4. Click OK to exit the dialog

    Disable the DHCP Broadcast Flag:

    1. Push Windows key and type R, enter regedit and hit Enter.

    2. Find and tick the following registry subkey:

    3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Tcpip\Parameters\Inter faces\{GUID}

    4. In this registry path, tick the (GUID) subkey to be updated.

    5. If the key DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag does not exist, use Edit menu, New, and then tick DWORD (32-bit) Value. In the New Value #1 box, type DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag, and then press ENTER. If the key exists, skip this step.

    6. Right-click DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag, and then tick Modify.

    7. In the Value data box, type 0, and then tick OK.

    8. Close Registry Editor.
