Default Windows Vista to windows XP on Sony vaio laptop

    Hi,everyone

A general problem faced by several people having laptops like to me is to change from vista to xp, here are the specifications:

    VAIO VGN-FW31M
    500Gb hard disk
    Intel core 2 duo
    4Gb RAM

    ATI Mobility Radeon 256Mb dedicated

It shows with built-in Vista Home premium, somewhat not favorable but I thought formatting and having Xp would be simple like typical.

So I go home and have my actual XP install CD ready, I put the CD, it loads the whole thing, all goes normal for two minutes but then I obtain a blue screen error saying that there is hard disk problem, test for viruses and other stuff, it shows this Code as well: *** STOP: 0xF78D2524 0xc0000034 0x00000000 0x00000000

Does anyone know what can be done to solve this problem?

There are no Windows XP drivers available for model. The problem is that you want SATA controller drivers slipstreamed into Windows XP installation CD. That will be hard if you cannot find such drivers. You will also run into a problem if you run to get Windows XP installed since you would have to search third-party sites to see if anyone wrote drivers for all hardware.

The blue screen shows in the beginning, first you obtain black screen telling you to press any key to boot from cd, so I pressed enter, then there was a blue screen, with the F6 message, then on blue screen all type of material is loading, after that I get the error.

I feel the only solution is to slipstream the SATA driver, I have read that solution somewhere else, the problem is, when I put my XP CD, run the auto run, I can’t click the first option which is to install windows, not even on a new partition, if you can help me on slipstreaming part that will be great, and drivers that I want. I think so can be found for some other versions of vaio laptops for devices from laptop to laptop don't change much.

You want to find correct SATA drivers first. Then use nlite to make slipstreamed disk.

    Hi,

Most of the time you can make use of the XP driver for sata.

If someone can provide me a link for sata xp driver, I will try installing driver at boot up and it might work.

That's the point. Sony doesn't recommend any such drivers.

If you can inform me what Intel chipset that laptop has, I can probably find a sata driver.

I hate Sony, their support is bad, they won't even document what chipset it has, go buy a Dell, and they carry XP on recent models.
