Am I right in idea 8 GB of ram in Windows 7 64 bit would slow it down and that 4 GB is the better choice even though my mobo supports 8 GB?

It definitely appears like an oxymoron but I would have to see some benchmarks to know. I am confident there are some out on the web already. I just got a new laptop and put Windows7 64bit on it and was planning on maxing out the ram to 8GB. So let us know if you can locate any benchmarks.
This benchmark is between Vista 64bit and Windows 7 64 bit using 6GB's of ram. Will have to search more to get something that benchmarks different memory capacities. But I think the biggest worry with memory and performance the type and quality of memory you purchase. I can't imagine memory capacity slowing down a system.
I have no idea how more would slow it down but I have read that it can. You someway pass point of it being efficient.
The price for 2 x 4GB of ram is very costly and I actually don't want to waste my money if I do not see a marked development. I have priced on Newegg and on the crucial site. Very costly as compared to 2 x 2 GB.
Hi,
It depends on applications you are running. Old applications might get puzzled, but all newer ones will run faster.
I utilize a screen magnifier or reader which utilizes a lot of ram but not a heck of a lot of other applications at similar time; I was actually going for that high performance muscle car speed. Thanks for the input and you have helped me decide just to go for the 4 GB,I currently now only have 2 GB. Much cheaper also.
