A devoted server is a server that you rent or own and that is hosted in a data center. It is generally used to host internet appliances that need the full power of a server. To manage the server, different alternatives are available to connect remotely. The connection to the server should be safe, quick, and simple to control. Based on the OS selected for server, various options on how to connect to it.

• Install a SSH server on the system and make the user that will be able to attach to the server.

• Star port 22 on firewall so that client can connect to the server from the internet.

• Download and set up a SSH client for the PC. SSH is cross-platform and a window client can fasten to a Unix patron and vice versa.

VNC

• Install a VNC server on the devoted server. Make users and strong password or establish the VNC server to use Network Information Service on Unix/Linux or an Active Directory.

• Start port 5900 on the firewall to connect from the Internet. If using a JAVA VNC client, start port 5800 too.

• Download and install a VNC client. While VNC is an open standard, some clients/server implements additional functions. If willing to use those features, a matched client/server is required.

KVM over IP

• Connect to the KVM over the IP to the devoted server's mouse, keyboard, and video port. The KVM over IP box will allow connecting to it and access the server also if it doesn’t have access to the internet.

• Establish the login and password to the KVM console particularly. Use the server qualifications to log into the server.

• Connect to the KVM with the login and password created and use the server credential to login to devoted server. Assume the KVM as a safe place where the server is placed. You are required to enter the credentials to get in the place. From there, one can login to the server typically.
