All PCs on a local, TCP/IP network have an IP address. IP address is in numbers different from other PC. Data sent from source PC use IP address to locate the machine on network and transport data. Several PCs are allocated a name, can also use the IP address to track a drive and access PC. On a Windows PC, this can be done from the network browsing capacity and using the drive tracking box.
• Step 1
• Click twice on "Network". For older Windows operating systems, the "Network Neighborhood." This opens a screen with a list of network choices.
• Step 2
Click twice on the icon on PC wish to access. This starts a screen that shown all the network-shared folders on the PC. If none are listed, they are either hidden or not shared.
• Step 3
Right click and choose "Map Network Drive." A dialog box is opened that prompts to set a drive letter. Choose a letter and press "OK".
• Step 4
Type a username and password if asked. If no username and password is allocated to the network share, automatically shown a list of files and directories on the system. This gives access to the files and folders on PC.
