A machine on the network requires IP address to interact with other machines .IP address is exclusive 32-bit logical address written in dotted decimal notation assigned to every machine which is attached to a network. An IP address is used to interact with different networking machines over a network layer. IP address is same as phone number which is exclusive.

A distinctive address is generally used by PCs to interact over a network that uses IP as its basic protocol is known as IP address. IP address is an exclusive number allocated to any system on an IP network, for instance PC, router, printer, net fax devices. Therefore, an IP address is used to recognize machine on a network.
