DNS enables the name of the web addresses entered in the browser to be translated in data that the system can read to route the connection to that address. An optional DNS server than the one the ISP offers might be quicker. Here's a way to speed up internet browsing through OpenDNS's free servers.
These steps are for XP and other similar versions of Windows or other OSs that enable changing networking properties.
•
Open Local Area Connection Status.
•
Unlock Local Area link Status.
•
The LAN or High Speed Internet Icon will come up showing 2 PCs hooked to a three way connector.
• Step 5
Open LAN or High Speed Internet and the Local Area Connection Status wizard will come up.
• Step 6
Go to Properties to get the Local Area Properties window. Scroll down till the Internet Protocol label is visible.
• Step 7
Choose Internet Protocol and go to Properties. Under Internet Protocol Properties, choose Use the Following DNS Server Addresses, and type the DNS and Alternate DNS.
• Step 8
Close the properties windows and close internet browser windows as well. Check the internet performance. If unsatisfied with the performance repeat the process, go to the Internet Protocol Properties; choose Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically. The OpenDNS addresses will be deleted.
