If there are a variety of ways of connecting to a remote computer, the most ordinary 2 techniques are from Terminal Services and Remote Desktop. Both are very much diverse in how they connect to a different PC and the kind of PC they connect to.
Connecting via Remote Desktop
1. Remote desktop is a application used for connecting a workstation to another PC using XP on Internet. To use this service, configure on the host PC to enable connection. When the remote user sets up a connection to the host PC.
Connecting via Terminal Services
2. Terminal Services is used while 1 or more users require connecting to a server on the network. Terminal Services enables multiple connections at once to server in place of a one-to-one connection. Terminal Services can be used to enable users to run programs hosted on the remote server and will enable those connected to control another user's session.
Major Differences
3. Both Terminal Services as well as Remote Desktop enable user to connect to a different PC, there are a couple of differences between them. Terminal Services is used to connect a workstation to a server. Whereas Remote Desktop connects a workstation to a workstation. Terminal Services enables for multiple, at once connections where Remote Desktop only allow one connection. If a user connects to a host workstation from Remote Desktop, nobody can use the host desktop.
Considerations
4. As Remote Desktop happen on various kinds of networks like LANs and Internet, broadband access at a minimum is needed for this kind of connection. Terminal Services takes place over a LAN or WAN so bandwidth is not a problem the way it is with Remote Desktop. The host PC running Terminal Services does require an appropriate RAM, storage and processing power to control multiple connections and multiple tasks.
Licensing
5. If any desktop and server needs the right operating system license, Terminal Services in a Windows environment needs some extra licensing considerations.
Every PC that connects to a Windows server needs a Client Access License. Terminal Services needs any of the User CAL for every user joining a Terminal Services server, or a Device CAL for all the machines joining a Terminal Services server. Every Terminal Services server requires a Terminal Services External Connector license enabling external users to join the server. Every Terminal Server that allows external connectivity must obtain this license.
