A switch is a network part like a router, but a switch does not direct network traffic. The benefit of a switch is that it enables hundreds of network PC connections. Switches are usually connected to routers to segment traffic. It is important to know the MAC address on the switch. Getting the MAC address on a switch includes logging in its console and entering the right instructions.
Step 1
Start Telnet window and sort IP address of the control
Step 2
Enter username and password when asked. If no qualifications are required, directly the console wail come up. Enter "Enable" to begin the Privileged Exec Mode, required to get the MAC address.
Step 3
Get the address of the MAC table by entering "Show Mac-Address-Table Dynamic" in console. A table name will come up where the MAC addresses are saved note down this address.
Step 4
Enter "Show Mac-Address-Table Address <address_table>" in the switch console. Swap "<address_table>" with the address you got from Step 3. The MAC address for the switch will be displayed.
Step 5
Read MAC address from the table.
