In case of a network error first check the network wires are connected properly or not. Other general reasons of network errors on a XP-based PC are an wrong IP address and an uninstalled TCP/IP protocol.
Verify the IP Address
1. To check IP address, click "Start" and go to "Control Panel."
2. Under control panel, open "Network Connections".
3. Right-click network connection and select "Status."
4. Under "Local Area Connection Status" box, select "Support" and check IP address.
Verify that TCP/IP Is Installed
5. To check that TCP/IP is installed, click "Start" and open "Control Panel."
6. Under control panel, open "Network Connections".
7. Right-click association union and go to "Properties."
8. Under "Local Area Connection Properties" box below "This Connection Uses the Following Items," check "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and press "OK.”
