University dorms are very fast networks, and known for file sharing, allowing collaborative work to be done by most students working on project. On a university or other local network with file sharing, one might want to reject access to shared folders to all people. Use guest account settings interacted in Windows to block access for shared folders.

Password-Protect (All Windows Versions)

• Open "Run".

• Enter "cmd" and push "Enter

• Enter "net user guest password" and press "Enter" in the command window. "The command completed successfully" message will come up. Close window. This command password guards Guest account on PC. This account needs no password. Complete next section on Windows XP, and skip to Section three for Vista or 7.
Windows XP

• Click "Start," then click "Control Panel."

• Open "User Accounts," and select "Guest Account."

• Select "Change the password." Enter a open sesame for guests for common folders to use, and restart. somebody who tries to access shared folders will be asked for user name and password. The user name will be "Guest."

Vista and 7

• Open "Run", type "cmd" and hit "Enter."

• Enter "control user passwords 2" in command window and press "Enter."

• Select "Guest," then select "Reset Password." Enter proffered password 2 times, and hit "OK." Select "OK" one more time, and restart. Now, anybody who tries to access shared folders will be asked for a user name and password. The user name will be "Guest."
