To prevent PC and LAN network install anti-virus and spyware software. Enable firewall. But also ensure securing in case of a break in. If having hardware spying devices connected to PC, an IP camera is required to be connected to a network switch.

• Hang IP camera in preferred place. Ensure that the power cord reaches power source, and having an Ethernet cable long enough to reach PC directly connected to LAN network through a router.

• Install network switch. Before connecting any component to LAN connected PC, run installation CD that came with the switch on PC. When prompted to do so, connect Ethernet cable to router and then to switch.

• Install IP camera. Run installation CD that came with the IP camera. When asked to do so connect Ethernet cable to IP camera and switch. After connecting IP camera on LAN network, you will be asked to list an IP address for camera. To assign IP addresses go to manufacturer's website.

• Install Active X media controls. After installing IP camera's main user interface window will load.
