Thread: Are there any benefits to Home Group?

My PC wired to a router and a laptop wireless linked to the network, both running Windows 7. I set up a homegroup on MY PC and joined it on the laptop. I can see the desktop on the laptop, but cannot see the laptop on the desktop. Since the network works and the homegroup does not, is there any advantage to get by solve the homegroup problem?

It seems that the Homegroup is just an easy way for home users to set up a network for streaming multimedia between machines and sharing devices. Aside from the ease of setup and the fact that things would be configured for you, it is really nothing but a type of network.

I would say that if your system is already networked as you want, then the Homegroup is somewhat superfluous, even though it’s stubborn appearance at every stage when you try to set up networks in 7.
