Default Connecting 2 wireless routers? Repeater / bridge?

    Hello.

I have a small problem and not a great connoisseur of WiFi, I am appealing to specialists.

I try to connect 2 wireless routers together: Is this possible and how?
The situation in brief: Since I moved, I have a small problem to connect my computer to the Internet. I have a modem / router Netgear wireless N DGN2000 which is connected to my wall jack to the ADSL. Wi-Fi is enabled and I can access without regard to the Internet from my laptop.

The problem: I have 2 old PC desktop and a color laser printer with network jack that all 3 are in another room some distance from the telephone jack and therefore DGN2000. How to connect the 2 PCs and the Internet printer with the laptop, knowing that they have no WiFi card.

I say it should be possible if I plug the 2 towers and the printer to a wireless router, but I do not know if it's true and if so how.

I do not understand at all modes "gateway" router "," Bridge "," access point "and so on. Should I use the same SSID network or not?

I have an old Linksys WRT54G router with which I tried to "play", but he always tells me he has no connection to the Internet.

Can you give me some advice and tell me how to configure and, if necessary, what equipment to buy (I want to keep DGN2000 if possible cons by the other router / bridge I would need WiFi N).

    Thank you in advance.

If the WRT54G you can put an alternative firmware (eg dd-wrt) Do it, then passes the wireless client bridge mode, connects to your Internet router, and it should work.

In fact, you do not need a 2nd router but only one access point wireless. But as you have a second router I'll explain the process:

You do not change anything on the router.

On the 2nd router, you activate the wifi, you put the same SSID as the first router, the same encryption and you put a different channel!

For example: Channel 1 on router 1 and channel 6 on the router 2.

Do not overlap the channels is therefore like that.

I suppose the router to 1 DHCP enabled as well, so you do not enable DHCP on this router.

If the signal is too weak it will buy a router with wireless N since as the Linksys WRT160N.

It is necessary that the second access point is connected to first in one way or another ...

OK, thank you for your info, I'll see what I can do this with alternative firmware.
And if not, I understand, an access point is enough. No need to bridge or another?

one side of your router / wifi, the other access point knows which operate in client mode (which is not true of all).

A cpl with a hub to connect the router connected to the net with the number or is your other pc + printer. If possible, it remains the best level of connection speed and reliability. If the WDS, but it takes 2 identical devices mostly (2xwrt54G here) for this to work effectively (WDS can "join" the wireless routers of 2). My CPL and it would be more trouble.

hello and thank you for your proposal.

I thought, but I confess that I have a doubt / fear about this: I have a stage for all the electrical outlets in the apartment and I already use the PLC for TV HD. There-there no risk of "conflict" / loss using several CPL taken on several different passing "in parallel"?

NB: I have not had time to test the above proposals but I'll do tomorrow and I will keep you (CPL or not )

    Thank you.

Well unfortunately I have ben a WRT54G v5 with firmware limited size and flashing is more complicated. I think I will not insist and seek a new access point directly compatible and WiFi N 300 Mbps, as DGN2000.

Recommendations? It's better to take the same brand or does it change anything?

This should not pose any problems with your HD TV, especially if you put a password on different systems Cpl did not even see them. And the size of a stream HDTV should not saturate a good system PLC. The ideal course being tested, but I think you have no worries at all.

    Well, ok.

I'll still give it a try with WDS and WPS or if I do anything I will pass the CPL.
