Windows OS sets core files and DLLs in "System32." As directory is important part of OS processes, network administrators shield files by security options in Windows. Security settings avoid users from removing or moving files from System32 directory. These settings protected integrity of Windows machine.

Instructions

• Open "My Computer". In Windows Vista or 7, icon is "Computer." In window that opens, double click "Windows" directory. In this directory is System32 directory. Set security on whole directory or set security on separate operating system files.

• Right-click System32 folder or file in directory. Choose "Properties". In new window that opens, open "Security" tab. This shows list of users that have permissions on folder or file.

• Click username in list box to edit permissions. Click "Edit". Window opens with list of permissions for user. Permission options variety from read-only to complete control of file or folder. Users with complete control can read, edit and remove file.

• Check "Allow" box beside permission to provide access to user. Check "Deny" button to control user.

• Press "Ok" to save changes. Do again these steps for every user to identify separate access control to System32 directory files.
