Many home administrators know it: Is also the last family member, only his own desktop computer or your own laptop, often the wild exchange of data begins across the network. The consequences are often overflowing and obscure hard drives, even though on each computer in the end, the same data store, since no one in doubt of the other computer wants to start extra to access the shared files.
The remedy here is more or less small, so-called Network Attached Storage on which the data at a central point on the network can be stored and managed. The scale ranges from small systems with a hard drive up to units with four, five or even more hard drives that can easily hold several terabytes of data.
Thanks to their specific task, the hardware is tuned to each other accordingly. By omitting the draw at this point unnecessary components such as a powerful 3D graphics card, sound card or optical reading devices, NAS systems compared to a normal desktop PC by a significantly lower power consumption.
With the SS4200-E Helena Iceland has made it a first-NAS copy from Intel in our test lab, which we want to look in more detail on the following pages.
The power supplied by an integrated 250 watt power supply. The electricity itself is performed via a standard IEC connector on the back of housing. At first glance, 250 watts while oversized somewhat, however, noted that modern hard disks in need of turn depending on the model one by up to three amps not to underestimate the starting current. Later in this article we will discuss the power but in more detail.
