Welcome screen is shown in several versions of Windows when system starts up. This screen shows an icon representing every PC user, permitting them to log in to PC by clicking their icon rather than typing user name as in earlier Windows versions. This really simplifies login process for beginner users. If you have by mistake disabled Windows welcome screen, get it back by User Accounts control panel applet or system's registry.
Instructions
Windows XP
Step 1
Go to "Start," then click "Control Panel."
Step 2
Double click "User Accounts." If you do not see this choice, click "Switch to Classic View" link.
Step 3
Click link "Change the way users log on or off."
Step 4
Put check in box "Use the Welcome screen" and tick "Apply Options."
Step 5
Reboot PC to see welcome screen.
Windows Vista and 7
Step 1
Click Windows logo and "R" keys concurrently. "Run" dialog box appeared. Type regedit into box and hit "Enter." This opens registry editor.
Step 2
Utilize folder tree to go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE," "SOFTWARE," "Microsoft," "Windows," "CurrentVersion" and "Policies."
Step 3
Click "System" folder below "Policies."
Step 4
Double click "dontdisplaylastusername" value.
Step 5
Vary number displayed below "Value data" from "1" to "0." Click "OK" and close registry editor.
Step 6
Reboot PC to see welcome screen.
