Windows Vista, out in 2007, is as of 2009 release of Windows 7 second most recent version of Windows OS line. Between new features out in Windows Vista was latest version of Windows search function. As helpful for rapidly finding files on hard drive, the method in which Vista's search function utilizes index files can slow down PC. To frustrate this, one decrease number of index files in Vista's library; this avoids search function from searching in certain areas, thus speeding up PCs ability to find files.

Instructions

Step 1

Go to "Start" to open "Start" menu.

Step 2

Search for "Search" box. Type Indexing Options. When program link shows, click on it. This opens "Indexing Options" window.

Step 3

Click "Modify" in "Indexing Options" window.

Step 4

Click "show all locations" choice to disclose all search places.

Step 5

Clear the check box placed to left of disk-drive place, to delete an index file from search database. This will cause Vista to no longer search for files in that place.
