Permitting users to share resources and hardware is one of main advantages of PC technology. This sharing of resources causes important cost savings in business environment and greater ease for home network user. But if you have lost access to resource you utilized to have, it is vital to know how to remap that resource.
Instructions
Step 1
Decide name of resource you want to remap. Map to hard drive of other PC on home or office network, or map straight to folder on that drive.
Step 2
Log on to PC and right click on "My Computer." Select "Explore" from menu to open Windows Explorer.
Step 3
Click "Tools" menu and select "Map Network Drive". Click drop-down box adjacent to "Drive" and select drive letter you would like to allocate to mapped drive.
Step 4
Enter the name of PC and shared folder or hard drive in "Folder" box. E.g. if you were mapping to share known as "MyShare" placed on PC called "MyComputer," type "\\MyComputer\MyShare" in folder box. Click "Finish" to finish remapping of drive.
Step 5
Go to mapped drive through Windows Explorer. Click on drive letter that relates to drive you mapped, and highlight it to access files limited on that drive.
