The ls command has several alternatives that change result returned. Such as either on its content, format, or sorting items in list. In fact, it is required to show data on file system in context.

When directory has several files, it is helpful to show results on many columns, utilize option C. Command for this $ Ls-C. This mode default show of result of ls in Mac OS X. Possibly in other UNIX or Linux, basic behavior is different. If you manage list of commands for same then that will be simple.
