Thread: XP Installation Fails

I am doing new installation of XP in my PC but it gets failed with some minutes remaining. PC doesn’t display any error message it just restarts again and starts setup. I can’t make out what is the problem so please tell me what is giving problem and how can I solve it. Any help will be appreciated.

I am also facing similar problem so I just swapped my video card with other one. Then I installed XP without problems. So this may solve your problem.

To solve your problem just do the steps given below:

• Allow XP hang up for first time, then take out CD and restart

• Do no enter CD when installation asks, in its place open DOS (Shift + F10)

• Go to C:/Windows and type setupapi.log, press enter. This opens in notepad.

• Go through file and find word “inf”

• You see that in last some moment’s installation made file with extension “.inf” earlier than failing.

• Means device there in last some lines is defective and you must make installation skip through it.

• Close notepad and go to C:/windows/inf in command prompt

• Go through files to find “.inf” which was associated to defective device.

• Directly remove .inf file, now insert XP installation CD and carry on installation
