    Default Linux or Windows

    Hi. I am first year MCA student. In my syllabus I have Operating System subject. I want detailed information on what is difference between Linux and windows operating system. If anybody has any info then please let me know that. Thanks in advanced.

    Windows NT/2000 operating system
    Windows NT is Microsoft's advanced operating system, providing complete environment on 32-bit systems or multi-processor applications. This system is advertised to support the implementation of optimal network-based applications (back-end) for many clients (client). At the same time Windows NT was designed specifically to serve the needs of network users for performance and work together with high safety. Windows 2000 (also known as Windows NT 5.0), XP and 2003 are also based on Windows NT technology.

    Important features of Windows NT (as www.microsoft.com): 32-bit architecture, supports multiple processors (4 and capable of upgrade to 32); multi-processor and multi-threading (Multithreading).

    Linux Operating System
    Linux is a multitasking operating system, supports 32 bit run on multiple hardware platforms. This OS allows free and copy the source. Linux Kernel version 2.0 supports multiple platforms, support of 64-bit SMP . Linux fit the standard X / Open and POSIX operating system similar to UNIX, run programs for Unix SVR4 and SCO.

    The competition just started
    Linux is gradually occupy the territory that Microsoft is choosing which one and only. However, most users are familiar with Windows; Linux is still pretty strange since many different causes. On the global server market in 1999 only 15% Linux, PC 4% respectively, but experts predict expressed optimism about the growth of its increasingly powerful. Microsoft is aware of all and is trying to make appropriate policies. A competition is starting complex.
