Thread: not able to install windows updates

I have a notebook with windows xp. in some way I clean the whole windows updates program off my PC. All I get when I go to the automatic turn on windows update page is the turn on boxes grayed over and unable to click them on. I am an intermediate user and have tried to download the program from the windows site, it downloads and installs well until it make the point of installing service pack 3 and then collapse with a message' access denied’. I have tried to install this program more than a few times with security turned off and followed other remedies to no avail. Is there a repair tool I can use or some other way to get my updates back on?

While using the system restore function won't possible help either the recovery disk if accessible leaves you with 2 options. First options the previous step would be a complete system recovery where the recovery disk brings all back to the factory state where you start all over again.
