Default What form of partition is advocated for Ubuntu Server.

I am setting up a Debian established server in the all days. Later reading few articles, I recognize that the division of a workstation and a server is unlike on / var, which must be on a distinguish division on a server. I require to recognize what they have suggested the division, I have a 80GB hard repel. The goal of the server is doing all from A to Z to learn. The server is mainly utilized for SSH, VPN, FTP, SVN, maybe a small web site and perhaps for fun of e-mail.

It is best if you make a partition for each mount point if you use Debian 5.0 offers several options. As a single partition, with two / home separately and individually in most cases. I recommend you change the following parameters: twice the RAM / 10 GB / tmp 1 GB depending on the mood. At the same time you need nodev, nosuid, noexec / Var: 10-20GB (depending on the needs of my PC) and / Srv: the rest. If you want to maintain flexibility, you can use LVM.

When starting you can see the standard disc. Here you can see the list of partitions with respective names, sizes and other file systems. Here is a small way, how the Linux partition is built, and looks. They are / dev/hda1, which is the first primary partition on a hard drive. The second partition is / dev/hda2. This is the second primary partition on a hard drive. Then / dev/hda5 counts as the first partition of a secondary hard drive.

Only the partitioning process is more complex than the whole plant. Usually you get two choices. The first is the classic partitioning and LVM (Logical Volume Manager), is much more versatile LVM. You can use ready to use wizard to create a partition that uses the entire disk. The wizard will create two partitions. You can use LVM to create a boot partition and the physical volume contains two logical volumes.

Defragment the NTFS partition (FAT32, or, if necessary) on Windows. Open gparted and reduce the size of the Windows partition you need 60-10 GB is more than good, depending on how many applications or games you use Windows. Create the root partition (/), swap and / home. The first 6 Gb is sufficient, preferably twice a second RAM (if you have 1 GB or more, leave to 1GB), and at the end of the third space.
