And that's your PC built. From here, the next step is to install an operating system, such as Windows or Linux. Do this by inserting the operating system CD into the PC and powering up. If your computer doesn't appear to load the CD after 30 seconds, then restart and enter the Bios as described above. Within the Bios, find the page that governs 'system start up' or 'system boot' and make sure the optical drive is given priority over the hard disk. Next, save any changes you have made and restart the computer. The operating system installation CD should then load and provide a series of on-screen instructions that should be followed. The trickiest part of installing an operating system is usually partitioning the hard disk, which governs where the operating system should reside. If the hard disk is new, format the entire disk using NTFS for Windows operating systems or Ext3 for Linux operating systems.
