I have a DVD ROM & CD-Rewriters 16x/48x/24x/48x Toshiba SD-R1512 IDE (OEM) a year and worked! When discarding a disc, it is not time to slow down (or does not want to)! Also became ill with some DVD drives!

It is normal. This discharges untwisted discs. And about the poor reading - dust, dirt, the laser is unable to cope. Either refers to a service center or buy a cleaning disk, the truth is not sure that helps. And even on his own experiences and interviewing his friends suggested to buy a cutter from the NEC (I have a cutter is a 2 - DVD and CD, has been operating for the second year and so far without problems).
