Putting CD into CD drive generally needs opening disc tray on drive. CD is then put in disc tray, which closes so that disc read by drive's laser. Dirt and garbage can collect on rails that disc tray rides on and reason it to get fixed. Repairing sticking CD drive's disc tray needs opening tray and eliminating damage. The disc tray should be opened cautiously as it could break if forced from out of CD drive. Repair disc tray by common tools found around house and it only takes half-hour.
Instructions
• Detach power cord from CD drive if it is external drive. Turn off PC if CD drive is built into it. Make straight the pin. Put in one end of pin in hole beside or below where disc eject tray lies flush with CD drives front case.
• Press end of pin in release hole until it meets some tension. Keep on pressing till tension is released by little click and disc tray opens somewhat from front of CD drive. Watchfully and gradually pull disc tray out. Take out any disc from disc tray.
• Blow off top, bottom and sides of disc tray with compressed air. Wet cotton swab in rubbing alcohol and rub it softly against side rails of disc tray. Moisten other cotton swab and rub it against side rails again. Blow off side rails with compressed air.
• Softly wash off top of disc tray with lint-free cloth. Wet other cotton swab and rub it softly on top, bottom and sides of front cover of disc tray. Wet other cotton swab and rub it in front cover.
• Softly press disc tray back. Connect power cord into CD drive if it is external CD drive. Connect power cord in PC and turn on PC. Push disc eject button on CD drive and see disc tray eject. It must do so and no longer be fixed.
