Most different programs control how CD drive works programs like Roxio, Nero, Windows Media Player, and iTunes have their own default CD read and burn settings. Many PCs are enclosed with two or three default programs that read or make discs, but there is only one bit of software that handles drive it driver. In several cases, uninstalling and reinstalling driver for CD drive restores drive's default settings.
Instructions
• Go to Device Manager by click "Start," then "Control Panel"; click "System." Then, click “Hardware” tab, then chooses "Device Manager." In Vista or Windows 7, go to "Start" and enter "Device Manager" in search field. It shows list of drivers that make PC useful.
• Press plus mark beside DVD/CD-ROM drives to show driver of CD drive. Right click on driver, choose "Uninstall." Click "OK" to validate removing device, then shut down and reboot PC.
• When PC reboots, driver for CD drive will mechanically reinstall itself, restoring basic properties of CD drive to their default settings.
