Various applications like Roxio, Nero, and WMP control how CD drive works and they have their own settings. Many PCs already have two or three programs to burn CDs, but only one software controls the drive that is driver. Several cases uninstalling and reinstalling driver for CD drive restores drive default settings.

Instructions

• Go to Device Manager. For this in XP go to "Start," then "Control Panel", click “System”. Then click "Hardware" tab, choose "Device Manager."

In Vista or Windows 7, go to “Start” and enter "Device Manager" in search field. Then it shows list of drivers that make PC working.

• Click plus symbol beside DVD/CD-ROM drives to display driver of CD drive. Right tick on it, pick “Uninstall”. Press “OK” to verify deleting device, then restart PC.

• After PC reboots, driver for CD drive reinstall itself, restoring fundamental properties of CD drive to their default settings.
