Precious business and non-business CDs and DVDs with PC data backup discs can have long life if you care for them appropriately. Protect your own compilations and copies so that they last as long as commercially generated items.

Instructions

• Hold discs carefully do not bend it. Never touch shiny "rainbow" side of disc. This is surface that is recorded on. Always keep discs in shielding box like jewel case or sleeve, but if you should put disc down earlier than putting it in container, all the time put it with shiny surface up. Be cautious not to bend disc.

• Clean disk by soft cloth to eliminate spots, dust. Blow on disc softly to remove hairs or other elements. Wash from center outwards when cleaning; never wash in circular motion.

• Prevent using solvent, rough cleaners or vinyl record cleaners on discs. As few cleaners may be safe for audio CDs, they could damage DVDs, CD-Rs or CD-RWs.

• Put business CD and DVD in their original cases upright. If feasible, store non business discs in regular size plastic jewel cases. As paper sleeves can be utilized for discs, be cautious that they fit insecurely sufficient to slide discs in and take them out simply and are not so tight that they could cause disc to warp. When mailing discs, always utilize padded envelopes and/or wrap discs with defensive wrapping.

• Store discs out of direct sunlight in cool, dry area. Prevent leaving discs in car in hot weather. Heat and humidity could enclose discs.
