Default Help to stop CD burning

I am try disable CD burning on a numbers of computers where use Windows XP on a domain, while trying to keep read access

I know you can disable Explorer from using its built in burning through a Registry key, but if someone used Infant Recorder Portable InfraRecorder Welcome, there is no way to security to stop that.

I tried registry changes, such as allow cd access for only local user, as I thought that would disallow non admins to burn to the CD, as well as trying to set permissions with SysInternals Objective browser on the virtual cd rom device files, like in Linux, but it still did not work.

You have any other Ideas? I have not tried opening the file with an EXE to lock it out yet because I don't know how to use NT Open File

you have to remove the optical drives if any are cd or dvd writers burning capable and like caretaker mentioned you would likely need to disable the usb support in the bios. The one thing to know about keeping people from going back in and enabling theUSB support again would be the need for a password security on the bios setup.

First open up the reg editor with the regedit domination at the Start>Run command line. The main key you are fascinated in is found at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Microsoft>Windows>Curr entVersion>Policies>Explorer". You'll likely need to see the new DWord value fashioned by bringing down the Edit option on the menu bar or right clicking in the right window once there to create "NoCDBurning" as the new DWord entry.

Once created and still painted in blue go back up to or go to the Edit dropdown menu and click on modify to adjust the "0" to "1" to put this into effect. subsequent a full restart you should see the builtin sustain for burning disabled.

At one time you could download a free registry guide for Windows ME, 2000, XP but no longer provided by the software company there. providentially I still keep that one on hand because I still have to look at XP systems on event.
