Default DVD not shows any files

when I enter some format, CD or DVD, it looks to read it for around half an hour; still nothing comes up. Opening the drive in Windows causes explorer to momentary pause and then it opens an empty folder.

I've had it open and cleaned up the lens, that didn't solve the problem. Switched SATA cables, still didn't solve it. It's not a Windows problem, because it behaves the similar with Ubuntu.

Please give me some solution to fix this problem.

confirm that your drivers are up date and that your DVD drive firmware is also up to date, it is maybe a Windows problem so do not rule that out . If both are up to date, let me know and I'll help you by deleting the top & lower filters which should solve your problem

I've searched all over, and can't even notice a place to download any sort of firmware updates. Windows Update says that I'm all up to date in the driver section. Let's move on to selection two then I think, because at this point it simply doesn't acquire any worse than useless.

I'm assuming you are known and comfortable editing the registry here; HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} In the right hand pane, delete the Upper Filters & Lower Filters key and then Reboot.

I think you have to Check again and also check out the sub keys for the filters.

Which creates sense sufficient; this computer was per-owned. I purchased it at a pawn shop. It stopped working when I had my Carbon DVD in there, and click check for updates that was while the website rejected to load and I simply closed the browser, only to go back to the game's small menu window and detected it blocked.

If it didn't really update anymore then no, it's mistranslated. I find it very strange the the filters are not there, perhaps this is the trouble .

It's workable that could be the problem. I don't work with the registry , but I am known with the lower filter/upper filter key entries and I think those entries are in my registry.I simply inquire if there's a way to add those key entries back to the registry.

If it's not that, then perhaps it's the software that's being used. I have Windows XP , and my laptop only came with a CD R RW/DVD drive. I imagine that was because windows XP operating systems only have CD burning abilities built in. I bought an external DVD R/RW burner/drive so I could write and burn to DVDS. Roxio simple CD and DVD Burning came with the external DVD drive and it works good. I also use ImgBurn , which works actually good.
