I have the same problem with a computer from me, but with a GH22NS40 LG. Firmware update did not bring anything because I still have warranty, take I will return the torch and another. There are drives that are apparently very picky, whatever.

One possibility would still, however, namely to adjust the laser. I have so many times to save drives, so it was in Xbox 360 consoles and CD players, This open the drive and the laser unit to easily rotate potentiometer, the resistance decreases (of course-measure with a multimeter). The increases generally id read performance, but also increases the wear of the laser unit. It might help. It would be better but you still have warranty and can leave you give a replacement drive.

Warranty - I have to look again, I fear it has expired. readjust self is a gross motor skills with tremor is not a good idea. Especially not after so much coffee. So it actually expand and buy new addition?

It could be wear and tear. If the laser is factory was set too high, this could now have passed the collimator lens. to adjust the laser would definitely be a possibility before you buy a new drive. If there is anyway no longer a guarantee, the purchase nothing stands in the way - but it drives cost very little.
