Intel's new socket design (LGA 1366) for Core i7 processors has compelled manufacturers of CPU cooling solutions to refresh their product lineup. The mounting hardware for the older socket LGA 775, socket AM3/ AM2+ and socket 754 is also included in the package.
The Hyper N620 stands six inches tall and features six heat pipes to carry the heat from the copper base to a gigantic aluminum heatsink with 58 aluminum fins-that's too big! The heatsink is sandwiched between a pair of 120 mm PWM fans arranged in a push-pull manner. One fan pulls air into the heatsink and the fan on the opposite side pushes the warm air out. The 9-bladed fans look cool with translucent blades and blue LEOs at the corners.
You shouldn't have any difficultly in installing the cooler if you refer to the manual. It took us around 10 minutes to mount the cooler on the AMO Phenom il X4 955. We had to remove the existing mounting brackets on the motherboard to fit this cooler. The installation manual also indicates the direction in which the cooler is supposed to be mounted so that the warm air is pushed towards the rear exhaust fan of the PC case.
The Hyper N620 kept the CPU cool at 45 degrees C despite overclocking it from 3.2 GHz to 3.8 GHz. The fans also lower the temperature within the case by drawing out the heat dissipated by the other components in the case.
