The Sunbeamtech HOD Docking Station is an innovative solution for swapping or hot plugging hard drives on-the-fly and without opening your PC.
This is actually an external hard drive storage casing without an enclosure. It is a plain plastic black box, with a slot window and a mechanical button on the top. The power switch, connector, a USB and an eSATA port are at the back. The product comes bundled with a USB, eSATA cable, a manual and a power adapter. Just plug-in the device to the computer's USB or eSATA port, power it up and you're set. You can insert any 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch SATA internal hard drive in the slot window and access the data on your computer.
The dock is compatible with Windows, Linux and Mac operating systems and supports hard drives only up to 1 TB. The eSATA mode has a data transfer speed similar to an internal hard drive's speed. If a SATA to eSATA desktop backpanel bracket was bundled, the product would have achieved a value higher than 30 MB/s. If you don't have a motherboard with an eSATA port, you should opt for SATA to eSATA bracket or just make do with the USB mode.
The product is light though not very portable, as the power adaptor needs to be tagged along. The dock has a good set of rubber legs which keeps the product firmly gripped on the desktop with almost no risk of it slipping off.
