    Rename the File Extension

Attach your Canon video camera to PC using a firewire cable. Duplicate the video files with .mod extensions from camera to PC. Files with .mod extension will be kept on the hard state media in camera. If your footage was shot in a non-widescreen format, that is, a feature ratio of 4:3, rename the file extension, altering it from "mod" to "mpg." You can now play back or edit the files.

    Change Utilizing SDCopy

Install the free use SDCopy, or Canon's own ImageMixer use, if your footage was shot in widescreen 16:9 format. Canon usually supplies ImageMixer on a CD that comes with the camera. Copy the .mod files from your camera to PC. Copy the file with a .moi extension; have 16:9 formatting information, from camera to PC. Use SDCopy or ImageMixer to convert the .mod files to MPEG-2 files by importing the files into the utility and selecting MPEG-2 as the type of file to convert to.
