The proposal that we present today is the MSI 890FXA-GD70 MSI motherboard top range for the offering AMD-based CPU. With this card the market places on the AMD 790FX heir to the GD-70 card, known by all fans for the great performance offered in both normal and overclocking.

The 890FXA-GD70 is based on the 890FX chip set AMD recently unveiled along with the first six-core CPU, with which we have tested the sample object of this review. The 890, as usual AMD is composed by the combination 890FX north bridge and SB850 south bridge.

The chip set is built with a 65nm manufacturing process and is encased in a 29x29 mm package. The real big change from its predecessor, the 790FX lies in the doubling of bandwidth in the connection north bridge south bridge 2 GB / s to 4 GB / s.


As for the PCI Express 2.0 we find a total of 42, 32 of which can be used for graphics 4 lines for a 4-lane connection and the remaining 6 for connecting devices such as 1x USB 3.0 and Gigabyte Ethernet control.

The SB850 south bridge carries with it the introduction of SATA 6 Gbps with a maximum of 6 connections and up to 14 USB 2.0 ports.

The board is distinguished by the color blue-black, dark brown PCB, continuing the line color of the previous model, the 790FX-GD70.At first glance the impression is to have at hand a very solid card that offers excellent performance and stability even in extreme situations.
