Default Which processor should I use?

I plan on building a top of the line gaming computer. I plan on using theInno 3d 8800 gt for my graphics card. Actually down the line I might actually use two or three (but that a while away). My power source will be big enough (1200 watts). Also a very good cooling system (Cool It Freezone TEC cooling system) tested at one time on overclockercafe.com to idle of 7 degrees cAny way, I was wondering if I should go with the amd phenom quad core (the problem is that it is new so im not sure if all the bugs have been worked out and Ive read in a review that they are not good for overclocking yet)Or the amd fx 74 two chips running on same board (the bigest problem with this is the fact that it is two chips and the cooling system I will use is built for one chip also the price is pretty steep)Or should I go with the good old amd athlon 6400 duel core. (The benefit is that most all the bugs worked out and great overclocker, problem only duel core)Really its phenom or athlon 6400. Thank

Have you ever considered about core 2 extreme? or why not q6600? q6600s are easy to overclock to around 3.0- 4.0ghz.Also, I read some really bad reviews about that TEC cooler... it makes it so cold that it WILL CONDENSATE inside, which is really bad because you'll have water dripping from the tubes and waterblock.Actually, just because its 45nm technology, it DOESNT mean faster at all. if you compared e8400 and e6850, theres absolutely no difference other than the e8400 releases LESS heat, therefore greater overclocking capabilities. The core architecture is just SMALLER, thats ALL. Its the exact same thing as the 65nm version, but its shrunk to 45nm.

you should consider INTEL Q6600 as it has a good overclock potential and can be run fine at 3.00 GHz easily.if it comes to quad core, then at the moment, INTEL is the smarter choice.

I saw a benchmark which showed intel are the better choice for gamers. Get the E8400 which overclocks to 4.0ghz from 3.0ghz, and you could go higher because of your cooling system. Or wait until the new quad cores come out which also overclock nicely.

The absolute best home processor out there is the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650. It features a new technology called penryn, which makes the processor to a 45 nanometer instead of a 65 nanometer- this results in faster speeds and less power to operate. It also supports a new RAM family called DDR3. This is the best, that is, if you can shell out a grand- this processor COSTS $1,099 WITHOUT THE FAN. The best for the money is the AMD phenom 9600+, it still supports the 65 nanometer technology and lacks DDR3 support- but its almost as fast (the processor its self) and it costs only $250 and thats WITH THE FAN. You will need a AM2+ motherboard for complete performence but will work in AM2 motherboards as well. Good luck!

And out from the cobweb filled cracks come the Intel boys, with their little toys. Congrats on choosing AMD over Intel; a wise choice. I'd go with the phenom, if you can afford it. But just know that a BIOS update will likely be needed as most AMD compatible motherboards accept the AM2 socket by default. The phenom requires the AM2+, which is the same socket with different BIOS setting and instructions. I built my gamer on the X2 5600+, and it's fast. Plenty fast.
