Default Is heat your only worry when overclocking a q6600 cpu?

I have a great case with very good fans and I want to overclock my cpu to 3.0ghz which is apparently alright on air cooling with the GO-stepping model that i have. It is a 600mhz jump though from 2.4ghz on each of the 4 cores. I only have the standard hsf running. If I was to make sure that the cpu did not go above 75 degrees celsius or whatever, would there be any other risks such as randomly closing applications or forms of hardware damage that I would be more at risk of??1. "apart from heat" what are your worries?2. Where does system instability come from (only in relation to your cpu) if not from heat?3. If not from heat, how does overclocking reduce the life of the cpu?4. Thats the first time ive heard of the overclocking overhead... tell me more5. I have a good cooling solution, keep it relevant

overclocking also reduces its life-time10 points

Your RAM might not take the overclocking-it all depends what you overclocked? CPU temp is OK if you stay below 60°C-but remember it gets hotter in the Summer so give yourself a little leeway.

You don't have to worry about heat too much on the new dual and quad core chips, they'll shut the computer down automatically if they overheat. Just clock it to what you're aiming for, and if you have stability problems slow it down, and try increasing the clock in small increments until you're happy that the system is stable.

As far as I know heat is crucial in electronics. Silicon used in semiconductors which your CPU is made of reduce performance on high temperature. Therefore high temperature will reduce the CPU speed thus overclocking will not be beneficial and instead an overhead. Aside from low performance, your CPU might get burnt too! CPU are made of micro or even nano gold fibers, for that thin imagine how much heat you only need to melt it?Most overclockers do is they support the CPU with very good cooling system to lessen the temperature generated by the CPU.Happy overclocking! :-)Frederick--Looking for house and lot in Cavite:http://www.cavitehomes.nethttp://cavitehomes.phpmanila.com

Get a massive cooler, up the v core slightly and see how far you can go while it's still stable. Then UNDER CLOCK the ram until the ram clock is double the FSB then it will go like crazy.

    PS. nice system!

Important info is sources please read!

Ram is Double pumped meaning exchange happens on both sides of the frequency slope.

CPU is Quad pumped (not to be confused with Quad-core) meaning 2 transfers happen on each side of the frequency wave. Therefore when the Ram clock is Double the FSB there is 1-1 interaction creating the best processing ability.

Even though the new processors shut down immediately on any sign of malfunction, its still a risk to overclock without knowing the actual caliber of you processor... overclocking not only increases the temperature... it can burn out the processor if not fail safe and even if the processor takes it alright check with your other components like RAM and Motherboard bus speed etc... to know wats the maximum supported speed to overclock.

Better give your system's detailed spec to a real overclock expert and then try out.. and dude still the life time does get reduced on overclocking ( just think about it , its simple logic ) ...

again its a really good chip u've got there... please dont burn it out...
