Should I be capable to overclock my RAM past its 'tested' clock speed?
OK - I'll elaborate. I have XMS3 Corsair 1600MHz RAM. I doubt if I should be capable to run it at 1660MHz etc or is 1600MHz the absolute maximum it can handle?
whenever I try to crank it past 1600, my computer freezes or doesn't start at all so I figure the answer is NO but sought to confirm to see if there's something else I can tweak to get it steady at 'somewhat' superior than 1600?
Postscript. I have the voltage @ 1.64v as well as also tried 1.66v (1.65v not possible with my MB).
P.S. I'm actually only involved because I've wanted to change my i7 920 OC from 174BCLK x20 to 166BCLK x21 thus escalating my RAM speed from 1392MHz to 1660MHz. Not that 1392MHz is slow, and I realize there may not be a performance increase, but I'm just enjoying tweaking and learning about OCing.
