Default How would I overclock q9550 to 3.4 GHz?

I'm putting mutually a latest PC as well as was initially going to acquire the QX9650 but delays on the 9800gtx have had me to come a while as well as I'm now seeing the q9550 popping up. I had intended to run the QX9650 at only stock or a small overclock to 3.2 GHz or 3.4 GHz which is fairly a waste for the money I'd require to pay but it looks like I could OC the q9550 to the similar clock speed as well as only pay a little over half the price.

I've not done a lot overclocking previous to (only overclock a Celeron 433 to 488 which was insignificant) as well as the new stuff sounds alot more complex.

Could someone explain what sort of things I'd require to modify to acquire the q9550 to 3.4 GHz?

As it wants to alter the FSB to 400 MHz is there any problem with other hardware that would require to be addressed?

I'm also looking at getting the XFX nForce 780i MB along with 2 sets of twin Kingston 2gb 8500 HyperX paired ram (4x 1gb sticks total), would they be capable to covenant with the OC? Or are there improved alternatives?

780i chipset runs at 1333 MHz fsb natively. It's not the most excellent overclocking chipset, but should be capable to Overclock to 1600 MHz (4x400) without troubles. You should run the CPU at the lowest vcore required to acquire constancy. But don't be anxious too much, that thing will be obsolete before it burns out anyway.

And PCI as well as PCIE should always be protected, particularly PCIE. Sound as well as networking cards is tougher than graphics card, not that you must undertake to damage them.

DDR2 800 is the best hit for the money. Faster RAM does not considerably boost overall system performance anyhow.
