I inadvertently changed the clock speed of my PC (an Athlon XP 2000 +) so that the PC was then detected as an Athlon XP 2600 +. I wonder if my processor has not suffer too much of this false manip I luckily spotted quickly enough. In addition, the fan that I was to be delivered for a 2800 +.

In standard no, your CPU has to bear the "upset", even if overclocking in question is relatively large. I would say that the major is that you directly exchange. And if there really was a problem, it would have packed full more, which is not your case.
