    Default I7-720QM overclocking Help

I had a query. I purchase an HP dv7t quad-core edition laptop. Here are a few basic specs. 4 GB DDR3 ram, i7-720QM processor (clocked at 1.60 GHz), nVidia GeForce GT 320M graphics card (1 GB dedicated DDR3 ram), and a 320 GB HD. I was searching for at some PCs online and came across a Lenovo notebook with same specs but in its place comes with 6 GB DDR3 ram, and the same i7-720QM processor clocked at 2.80 GHz. I noticed when I purchase my laptop that it said it can be clocked equal to 2.80 GHz. must I look into overclocking mine and if so how should I go about it. I’m just curious because I'd definitely want to overclock it if a similarly configured computer can be stable at 2.80 GHz. Or is there more to it than that?

The i7-720QM has a stock of 1.6 GHz although it has a first rate up its sleeve. Below heavy loading CPU will boost its core speed from 1.6 GHz to an utmost of 2.8 GHz. This automatic increase in clock speed is Intel's Turbo function. It's a useful burst of speed when you require it. Run something like Real Temp and you will see the increase happen automatically as you work.

Thanks that's a release. But you're certain that I don't require making active turbo myself right?

Download CPU-Z, run it and ensure your CPU is familiar. Then open your Windows Task Manager. Then run several applications and observe the system respond to complex tasks by raising the CPU core speed.
