Default My sons computer recently died and now it will not turn on.?

He turned it on one morning to let it boot up and he said the fan was clicking so he turned it off, did some service with it and turned it back on. He said there was still clicking so he turned it off, checked it again then from there on it will not even attempt to boot up. It is as if no more power is going through it. We recently changed the power supply afterwords and still no go. any suggestions out there? Was NOT overclocking, no recent hardware installed, no viruses or spyware located either.

there should be lights inside the computer that blink when you turn it on. tech support should be able to tell you how many blinks mean what. a computer should start up even if the fans arent working it will just get hot. check the ram it mightve come loose or 1 just died on ya.

You said you just replaced the power supply.Check the switch on the power supply next to where you plug in the cord on the back of your PC.

Check the RAM. Is each card seated snugly in it's slot?Check the CPU heatsink. If it was the CPU fan that was clicking, maybe he accidentally pulled a corner of the heatsink out of its mounting. Most newer motherboards have a safety feature that won't let the computer boot if there is a heatsink/fan failure. Check that the CPU fan is plugged in to the motherboard, and check that the heatsink is nice and tight. You mentioned changing out the power supply, so I doubt that it's a cable problem. Still, it wouldn't hurt to check ever power connection, especially the main board connector. Also, if this motherboard requires the extra 4-pin power connection, make sure it's plugged in.If the motherboard has a light on it, look to see if it's blinking or if it's a certain color. Look up your motherboard manual online, or if you have the actual paper copy, and look for the diagnostics section that might tell you what is wrong. This might sound stupid, but try plugging it into a different outlet (preferably in a completely different part of the house). I was once having the exact same situation, and I spent hours swapping out the RAM, re-attaching the heatsink, trying various power supplies, etc, and in the end it turned out to be just a faulty outlet! If none of that tells you anything, it's probably just a dead motherboard, or a dead CPU.

Have you checked the wiring that connects the power button to the mother board. Sometimes that goes bad and you need to replace it.

Are you sure it was the fans clicking? sounds like your hard drive may be bad. I would check that. Had the same problem once. You would have to re-install your operating system of course. Hope this helps
