Seasonic is one of those extraordinary companies that loves a continued reputation of recommendation from online communities the world over. Corsair contracts the company to create its own HX rate, and while we did not rate the previous Seasonic unit we reviewed, this one appear a lot more promising. Founded on our first impressions the cost, style and quality appears excellent so we could not expect to acquire a maintain of one of the 500W units to see if it functions as good as we had expect.

The S-example is a non-modular unit, so this 500W goes up directly among our personal favorites in the mid to less-end market – the Corsair VX450 and VX550 (who are rather created through OEM, CWT). This new S12-2 has together 8 and 6-pin PCI-Express power links as good as support for the new CPU boards with an 8-pin EPS 12V link, so it is even construct with grunt. We will go into detail to see if Seasonic does sufficient to tip the crown of the mighty Corsair.

In the box you have the commons to acquire you going, although there are no cable management bits which is unsurprising given the cost, however still Corsair chucked in a some free cable ties with its VX550. The Power Supply Unit is packaged fairly well with bubble wrap, but again it is nothing spectacular – it simply suffices.

Professional" is a word that arrives to mind here, although it does experience rather strange when we are choosing to a humble supplier of power. Seasonic utilizes a textured matt black finish that is so hard wearing and commonly appears and experience excellent and of high quality. The unit is a fairly "normal" size at 150x140x86mm, but equated to other Power Supply Units, the 12cm fan really appears a bit little in comparison to the 13.5cm ones we are utilized to seeing.

So why does not Seasonic utilize a 13.5cm as well? Well the only moving component on a Power Supply Unit is the fan(s) and they typically decide the MTBF, however many 13.5cm fans are "not as excellent quality" as the more basic 12cm ones, and Seasonic eagerly informed bit-tech that it has gone to the additional effort of utilizing a higher quality branded ADDA fan, with a longer life ball bearing rather of the more famous sleeve bearing.

This includes price and is somewhat noisier, but it assists guarantee reliability and function. One thing we found throughout trying to back up this claim was that later we turned off the PSU, the fan continued to spin less power for about 20 seconds instead than succumb to friction a lot sooner similar to many others.
