Today, many models of laser printer are available in market. Depending upon vendor and model of your printer, some features could differ from other printer. However, there are certain common features which are present in every laser printer. These features include control panel, trays, output bin, cartridges, etc. In this section, we will discuss these common features plus ways to rectify common printing problems and preventive steps for printer.

Depending upon the model and manufacturer of printer, the control panel may contain any number of buttons. But among all buttons, Job Cancel and Go buttons are most important. You may press the Job Cancel button to cancel current printing job. Whenever a printing job is cancelled, lights at control panel blink until printing job is completely cleared from printer and computer.



You can use the Go button to resume printing when the printer is paused or when unprinted data is still in the printer or dear some printer errors. Another purpose of Go button is printing a demo page. To do so, the printer must be in the ready state (Ready light on). The inner assembly of printer contains a cartridge. Unlike inkjet printer (which makes use of ink for printing), a laser printer uses fine black powder for printing. This powder is known as toner.
