They may not be the cheapest printers around, but HP's Color Laserjets certainly deliver in terms of value for money. That's particularly true of the new CP3515n, which we found to be an exceptionally good choice for the small business looking for an effective, yet affordable, colour printing solution. Powered by a single-passA4 colour laser, the CP3515n can print in colour at a de~ent speed of6 ppm.
However, to initial ise at the first use, the printer takes some time. It's a level of performance that can be attributed to a 450MHz processor supported by 96MB of memory, which can be further expanded to 352MB using industry standard DDR2 Dimms, ifneeded.
We were also impressed with the quality of the output, both when chuming out typical business documents and printing photographs. OK, it won't win many converts among graphics professionals, but for proofing work and as a general-purpose workhorse it's hard to beat. We also didn't have to mess with any of the settings to get good results. It's got plenty of capacity, with two A4 paper drawers as standard on this model, one holding up to 150 sheets and the other a manual input tray.
The maximum duty cycle of the printer is 30,000 pages per month with a recommended monthly volume of up to 1,000 pages, enabling the printer to cope with the demands of most .small businesses and home users. The printer does not feature an Auto-duplex mode. The 'n' in the model name suggests that the printer supports network interface and can be installed as a network printer for other users to access as well. To a desktop, the printer can be cOlUlected via an USB port as well.
Thc printcr supports Windows and Mac. HP also bundles a CD of StockLayouts that features ready to use design layouts for profcssional printing. These include brochures, newsletters, business card and more. The format used in Microsoft Word or Publisher. In terms of size it's not the smallest colour printer on the market, but the CP35l5n is still pretty compact with a small, but surprisingly, informative LCD screen for local walk-up management. At around Rs.25,000, the CP35 J 5n is not as affordable as the Samsung CLP 15, but offer remarkably good print quality and features.
