This refers to the number of dots per square inch that a printer can print. The greater the resolution, the better the smoothness and clarity of the printed matter. Most current inkjet printers offer resolutions of up to 1200 x 1200 dpi, while the photo printers go up to 4800 x 4800 dpi. Laser printers usually offer 600 x 600 dpi with the better ~nes touching 1200 x 1200 dpi.
