Since many inkjet printers use more than four basic CMYK inks to produce high-quality prints, you might end up spending a lot on printing photos if you fire prints directly from your digital camera. As an alternative you can go for a photo printer that uses the inkjet technology but mostly relies on dye-sublimation. In this, dye color is transferred continuously from a ribbon onto the paper followed by a protective coating. The print produced is of high quality and has a professional photofinish to it. Another advantage of using photo-printers is that they can print directly from compatible digital cameras. Several models also accept storage cards or Memory Sticks. Photo-printers are available as a subclass that is limited to 4x6 or smaller prints. Such printers cannot handle the standard 8.5x11 sheets.
